Veritas Backup Exec 20.1 is the beginning of a unified approach for Veritas Backup Exec across subscription and perpetual licensing options.  This model signifies our ongoing commitment to helping organizations more easily adopt and scale Veritas Backup Exec with greater flexibility.

New customers can now choose from Bronze, Silver or Gold Editions for both Perpetual and Subscription licenses, on a front-end capacity basis: 

Veritas Backup Exec Bronze Edition:  File server protection for on premise and cloud

Easily protect physical, virtual and cloud file servers with the ability to deduplicate to the cloud

Bronze Edition comes with Backup Exec’s leading support for more storage targets than any other vendor including tape, disk and cloud

Essential Support is included in subscription Bronze edition licenses and bundled for purchase with perpetual Bronze edition licenses.

Veritas Backup Exec Silver Edition:  File server, database and application protection for on premise and cloud

Easily protect physical, virtual and cloud file servers with the ability to deduplicate to the cloud

Silver Edition includes granular recovery of applications and databases with Backup Exec’s Granular Recovery Technology (GRT), Windows and Linux protection, tape library up to 4 drives and support for more storage targets than any other vendor including tape, disk and cloud

Essential Support is included in subscription Silver edition licenses and bundled for purchase with perpetual Silver edition licenses.

Veritas Backup Exec Gold Edition:  File server, database and application protection for on premise and cloud with centralized management of backup servers for multi-site locations

Easily protect physical, virtual and cloud file servers with the ability to deduplicate to the cloud

Gold Edition includes granular recovery of applications and databases with Backup Exec’s patented GRT technology, Windows and Linux protection, unlimited physical or virtual tape library, NDMP and SAN shared storage protection, central backup server management and support for more storage targets than any other vendor including tape, disk and cloud

Essential Support is included in subscription Gold edition licenses and bundled for purchase with perpetual Gold edition licenses.

Existing Veritas Backup Exec customers should continue to purchase perpetual licenses and renew maintenance/support for perpetual licenses under existing licensing models.

Veritas Backup Exec New Features:

Veritas Information Map™ integration enables customers who have also purchased an Information Map license to locate and visualize their entire data estate supporting General Data Protection Rules (GDPR) and other privacy regulation readiness.

Security enhancements:  The Payment Card Industry (PCI) Security Standards Council published the latest version of the Data Security Standard (DSS) to put an end to the use of the outdated Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption and early versions of Transport Layer Security (TLS). PCI DSS 3.1 calls for the use of current, secure versions of TLS and stronger cryptography. In line with this this update to the DSS, Backup Exec supports TLS 1.2, the updated version of the TLS protocol.

Support for IPv6

New platform support:  SQL 2017, Windows Server 1709 parity support, Exchange 2016 CU8, SLES 12 SP3, Debian 9 64-bit, and others

New Veritas Update engine (VxUpdate):  Symantec Live Update has been replaced with Veritas Update for providing updates to Veritas Backup Exec.

Get Your Version Update:

To access a new version, log into the Veritas™ Entitlement Management System by going to support.veritas.com, click ‘Licensing’ and enter your Veritas Account credentials.

Click on ‘Entitlements’ (within Veritas Entitlement Management System main menu), expand filters by clicking ‘More Options’, set the ‘Product Line’ filter to your corresponding product and click ‘Apply Filters’.  Look for entitlements referencing the version matching the above release details.  To access your new software and license key(s) utilize the ‘Download Software’ and ‘Generate License’ buttons located in the Actions column.
